Part Five
Quotations
"Of course, I'm being rude. I'm spoiling the ending, not only of the entire book, but of this particular piece of it. I have given you two events in advance, because i don't have much interest in building mystery. Mystery bores me. It chores me. I know what happens and so do you. It's the machinations that wheel us there that aggravate, perplex, interest, and astound me."--Death Part Five (243)
This is death giving away a huge part of the book but he gives and explanation as to why he does it. He is showing that he is straightforward and that he isn't going to hide the truth and that he is very open about how he feels and acts.

Thoughts and Response
In this part of the book there are a lot more hardships, in the way of money. Rosa no longer has work and the mayor is telling everyone to stop with the luxuries and prepare for hard times. Liesel and Rudy become hungry and feel that that leads to Rudy's behavior. Rudy begins to start fights with people and gets into more trouble. This is definitely a different side of Rudy and he is definitely struggling with some mental battles as he tries to deal with the fact that his family is starving.
Max and Liesel's relationship has grown a lot more during this part of the book. Max asks Liesel to cut his hair toward the beginning and they also begin to talk about how they are so similar. They talk about their nightmares and begin to hang out more. They sit in the basement and read books and do crosswords in silence.
