Part Two
Quotations
"I guess humans like to watch a little destruction. Sand castles, houses of cards, that's where they begin. Their great skill is their capacity to escalate."--Death Part Two (109)
This quote shows how death is struggling to understand why humans enjoy the destruction of things. It makes you think about the behavior of humans and how they react to destructive things.

"Liesel wandered toward the mountain of ash. It sat like a magnet, like a freak. Irresistible to the eyes, similar to the road of yellow stars."--Death Part Two (119)
This shows the interest Liesel has in the Jews but it also shows that the pile of burning stuff is just like the Jew's houses and how no one wanted to be around it or touch because of the danger of getting to close to them.

" 'I knew it.' The words were thrown at the steps and Liesel could feel the slush of anger, stirring hotly in her stomach. 'I hate the Führer,' she said. 'I hate him.' "--Liesel Part Two (115)
This is the point when Liesel realizes what happened to her mother and why she never wrote back. She finds someone to blame and she chooses the leader to blame and that is not a good thing to do in this time.

Questions
- Why does Rosa make Liesel go collect the laundry alone?
- Why does Liesel feel the need to write letters to her mother?
- Why is Liesel sickened by the sight of the pile of stuff burning?
- Why does Hans hit Liesel when she talks about hating the Führer?
My Thoughts and Response
This part of the book shows a lot of anger and confusion. It shows how Rosa is upset at Liesel for spending money on letters to send to her mother. It also shows the scene where Hans and Hans Junior were arguing about becoming part of the Nazi party. It also shows the sad scene where Liesel figures out what happened to her mother and she feels anger towards the Führer.
I feel as though Hans is struggling to figure what he is going to do about the Nazi Party and I feel as though he will do something that they will not approve of and that will lead to something much worse. I also believe that Liesel may begin to understand why Jews are persecuted but I fear she will figure it out a little late.
